M-Water Study

Understanding Hydration
By Melonie Montgomery M.S.H.N.

Fenestra
Fenestra is an Anti-Aging and Wellness analysis that uses non-fasting urine and saliva samples to evaluate over 30 parameters. Behind our science is 70 years of studies, research, medical doctors, nutritionists, nurses, naturopaths, and thousands of tests. The goal here is to provide you with an understanding of the Fenestra Analysis measurements and the science behind them, As you read the following information I know you will begin to understand and appreciate the analytical, mathematical information provided by Fenestra. An understanding of these measurements will allow you to postulate the calculation of each measurement.

Water
The human body is composed of about 70% water and 30% solids. Normal metabolic activity can only occur when cells are at least 65% water. Water’s main functions are to:

  • Dissolve nutrients
  • Transport nutrients to the cells
  • Removal of waste
  • Removal of toxins
  • Activation of cellular energy

Water is the most important nutrient because it is responsible for so many functions and for the activation of cellular functions by other nutrients. When nutrients have reached the cells, water is necessary for the cells to function, maintain (catabolic phase) and build and repair (anabolic) phase. These two phases of cellular function are closely related to the cellular water flow or lack of its flow.

Intra-Cellular & Extra-Cellular

There are two types of water in the body, intra-cellular and extra-cellular. Extra-cellular is the fluid outside an individual cell while intra-cellular is the fluid found inside the cell. Both of these types of water are necessary for optimal health or Wellness of every cell in the body. In order for the cells to be biologically active they must absorb water.

When the cells over hydrate it triggers an anabolic phase, one of the healing mechanisms in the body. The anabolic phase is triggered by a positive hydrogen balance, protein synthesis, or growth hormone. When cells are dehydrated they put into motion the catabolic phase that can lead to inflammation and premature aging. The measurement of Resistivity, Conductivity, Surface tension, Specific gravity and the calculation for Anabolic-Catabolic balance provide us with a look at the ability of the nutrients to flow into the cell and the toxins and waste to flow out of the cell. This look at the flow of intra-cellular and extra-cellular water is the key to understanding cellular hydration.

Methods of Measurement

The Fenestra Analyzer was created after years of research into the fields of Bioelectric Impedance Machine (an FDA approved system), Microscopy cellular analysis, Bio-Terrain Analysis, Dr. Carry Reams system called REAMS testing, symptomology, medical diagnosis, and intake questionnaires. Each one of these systems have several areas where they over lap or provide validation for the others as well as providing invaluable science.

The Fenestra Analysis measures over thirty different parameters; we will be looking at only the four that were evaluated in this 30-day study.

  • Conductivity
  • Resistivity
  • Surface Tension
  • Specific Gravity

Conductivity

Conductivity is a measurement of the amount and quality of electrical current in the body. This is a measurement of salts in the body. Salts are electrolytes and they are responsible for the electrical conduction of information in the body. Conductivity is the measurement of the quantity of current flow within the biological specimen and is an indicator of osmotic pressure, heat loss, and fluid balance. The quality, purity, hydrogen charge, pH, and amount of solids in the water being consumed contribute to the conductivity number.

If the current in the body is too high or too low there will be symptoms of degeneration of the body.
The calculation used to measure this number is:

Mhos (micro-siemen) =
Amp
Volt

Resistivity

The resistivity is the measurement of the relative concentrations of minerals contained within the test samples. The slight difference in the concentration of minerals found in the plasma vs. the amount found inside the cells creates a voltage gradient called the membrane potential. Therefore, resistivity is a direct reflection of the body’s ability to conduct electrical currents. More correctly, resistivity reflects the flow of ions across cellular membranes.

Poor resistance and cellular dehydration may result in disease. Proper resistance and hydration result in better fat burning ability of the body and decreased free radical damage. These numbers also provides us a look at the quality of minerals being delivered to the cells. The direct correlation between waters charge, minerals present, and the purity of the water is a direct reflection on the Zeta potential of the fluid (see below).

ZETA POTENTIAL

The flow of life moves with the flow of electrons. Using Fenestra to look at this flow of electron provides you with a vast array of information about current levels of hydration and also provides a method of improving that Zeta Potential number. All of life moves about with a constant interplay between the forces of ions. Ions are electrically charged atoms or groups of atoms. Anions are the negatively charged ions and are created through an electron gain and cations are the positively charged ions created through an electron loss. In colloidal chemistry the term used to discuss the charge around a colloidal particle is zeta potential. When tiny minerals or organic particles (colloids) are suspended in a fluid, the negative ionic charge around the colloid is what maintains the dispersion or discreteness of the particles of the suspension.

Rheology is the word that describes the study of the deformation and flow of matter. Rheo is from Greek for flow. The in and out of health Flow in the bodily fluids stream is a function of the zeta potential of the colloids in the fluid. If the zeta potential is low, toxins cannot be suspended for elimination and nutrients cannot be suspended for absorption or transportation to the cell.

In 1878, Herman von Helmholtz established the mathematical basis for the physical chemistry covering the stability of liquid-solid systems, including milk, oil, emulsions, urine and blood. His mathematical theory forms the basic law of zeta potential today. There were many other individuals that established a foundation for the understanding of zeta potential and its practical application to understanding health in the human body

Surface Tension

The cohesive forces between liquid molecules are responsible for the phenomenon known as surface tension. The molecules at the surface do not have other like molecules on all sides of them and consequently they cohere more strongly to those directly associated with them on the surface. This forms a surface "film" which makes it more difficult to move an object through the surface of a cell.

Surface tension is typically measured in dynes/cm, the force in dynes required to break a film of length 1 cm. Equivalently, it can be stated as surface energy in ergs per square centimeter. Water at 20°C has a surface tension of 72.8 dynes/cm compared to 22.3 for ethyl alcohol and 465 for mercury.

Fenestra measures surface tension using an urotensiometer, a very sensitive instrument that is with in 2/100 correct in the Fenestra. It is inversely related to the excretion of surface-active substances. Surface tension is also inversely related to the amount of oxidative processes occurring in the body.

Specific Gravity
Specific gravity measures the kidney's ability to concentrate or dilute urine in relation to plasma. Because urine is a solution of minerals, salts, and compounds dissolved in water, the specific gravity is greater than 1.000. One Hundred percent clean water has a specific gravity of 1.000. The more concentrated the urine, the higher the urine specific gravity.

Specific Gravity is a picture of:

Electrolyte stress
Electrolyte Insufficiency
Kidney Excretion

Electrolyte stress is brought on by too many electrolytes in solution or dehydration. Using Fenestra we have a measurement that allows us to determine which one is off on a cellular level. When electrolyte levels are high in the body toxins can be trapped in cells, and nutrients have difficulty getting in to the cells.

Conclusion

The information provided above has been used to make the calculation necessary for the hydration indicator on the print out provided with a Fenestra Analysis. Looking at the ability of the water to flow in and out of the cells is a vital part of Wellness and Well-Being. Today hydration is a word that everyone is talking about but no one is providing a way of personally knowing if you are dehydrated or well hydrated. The standard system of having everyone drink 8, 8oz glasses of water daily simply does not work! Fenestra provides a mathematical representation of cellular hydration. About 90% of our clients and the study groups we have tested are severely dehydrated. Many of these subjects are drinking their 8,8oz of water daily and are still dehydrated. We have put these people on an intake of 1/2 of their weight in ounces of purified or distilled water and still they remain dehydrated. After years of working with the Fenestra Analysis and trying hundreds of different protocols for many imbalances we gave up on working on hydration and went on to rebalance the other numbers provided by Fenestra. Protocol for perfect Wellness had been established for all of the others areas except hydration based on the use of specific products that have been proven to shift all the other parameters towards wellness. Dr. David Wheeler asked us to do a 30-day study on 50 people to see if his product could help with the hydration problem. We did not have a prior relationship with Dr. Wheeler but had tested other water products in the past that had been unable to improve on the hydration indicator. We started the 30-day M-Water study trying to be neutral about Dr Wheeler’s approach to hydration with M-Water, which is challenging after observing that all the other so called hydration functional water products simply do not increase hydration whatsoever. To our surprise all 50 clients showed marked improvements, with an overall improvement of 22.3%. We are currently doing a 180-day study on M-Water so we can evaluate the other indicators available to us using Fenestra.

We here at Fenestra will be glad to answer any questions. Feel free to give me a call by telephone or by email to present any questions. We highly recommend M-Water as a product you can trust to provide your clients with improved hydration and Dr. David Wheeler as a man with a mission to help others!
